Stonehaven River Lodge is nestled on the banks of the Goukou River near Stilbaai, approximately 300km from Cape Town. This picturesque area enjoys a mild, Mediterranean climate and is home to scenic tracts of indigenous fynbos and the Goukou River estuary, a protected marine reserve.

The lodge itself is located on Stonehaven Farm, a working farm with olive groves, abundant orchards and Angus and Wagyu cattle. It is a place of indescribable calm and beauty – a true hidden gem.

A watersports paradise

Swimming, water skiing and more… a world of watersports awaits in the Goukou River which has 15km of navigable river. The Lodge has a private slipway and jetty for boats, should you bring your own boat.

Boat tours and cruises can also be arranged.

Nearby Stilbaai also offers kite surfing and surfing.

Simply relax

Sometimes the simpler things in life are just what we need. Go stargazing to take in the vast wonder of our night skies, or have a languid picnic under an ancient fig tree alongside the river.

Enjoy braaing to your heart’s content with long, lazy afternoons of conversations and hot coals.

A delight for nature loves

We have recorded 250 species to date, including fish eagles, making Stonehaven a real treat for birdwatchers.

Fishing enthusiasts can cast a line from the lower reaches of the river.

Try something different

Discover farm life and help out with olive picking in our beautiful groves, or play a game of croquet on our amateur croquet lawn (the perfect spot to hone your skills in preparation for the Queen’s visit).

Feeling adventurous?

Bring your own mountain bike to conquer a variety of scenic trails, or don your hiking shoes to explore the area. Nearby Stilbaai also offers several kitesurfing and surfing spots.
